Twitter – An Amazing Music Marketing Tool
Mar 31st

Both big and small bands/individuals are taking advantage of twitter, which is an amazing status by status update client. It’s simple – all you do is tell twitter what you are doing at the moment and in turn it broadcasts it to all your followers. Now you can follow band members inside of your favorite band. Scary? Yeah, maybe a little bit..because when you tell people your going to Starbucks on 5th avenue don’t be surprised if you get bombarded with stalkers and maybe even paparazzi. Twitter is amazing if you know how to use it correctly and if your fans are on it. It’s one of the best and most simple music marketing tools there is. Best of all its free. It strips all your social networks features down into just status. HOWEVER, I’ve seen bloggers stop making blog post and musicians stop practicing at band practice because they are too busy telling others what they are doing. Is it a productivity issue? Maybe, but that depends on how much you use Twitter.
Who do you know on Twitter?

The Fray to Debut New Single on ABC
Nov 17th

Not many people know, but the reason the Fray have became such a big phenomenon is around two and a half years ago they were given key placement on a little show called “Grey’s Anatomy”. Now they have decided to partner with ABC again and introduce their new song “You Found Me” during a 1 minute promo for the new season of LOST. Stay tuned for this on November 20th during a Grey’s Anatomy Commercial break.
Getting Booked at Music Venues
Nov 6th

I don’t know if you can believe it or not, but the above picture is me at 16, jamming out of course. Today’s music marketing topic is getting booked at music venues. It’s easy, it’s a pain in the ass, and it’s somewhere in between. Some venues will want your demo, so if your a small band you could rule yourself out right there. Non sense! Get a decent video of the crowd loving your stuff with the band jamming and you will be set (it can be a YouTube video). If you want to plan your own tour you can, using places like Local Band Network and others. However, booking yourself takes a lot of time and motivation at the national level. Best thing I can recommend is to get someone to do your booking for you. Partner with a few other bands that you personally like and tour. As i told you before, talking to people at your shows is the most powerful tool to get somewhere with your band, it’s the same for booking shows. Get your live show down and play as many house party’s as you can, there is no better way to get your music out than word of mouth.
Any other suggestions or ideas that you know of for getting booked as a smaller band? Comment Below.

Breaking Bands – Dream in Stereo
Sep 11th

Dream In Stereo, a band that hails from Southeast Michigan, really give their all when it comes to live shows and writing music. Their upbeat pop-punk style music is enough to make anyone want to dance. They are currently working on recording vocals for some songs that will be on their MySpace as soon they are complete. I talked to Dream In Stereo, read the interview below.
So, what’s the history of Dream in Stereo? How long have you guys officially been together, how’d you all meet?
The lineup that we have as of now has been together since June. Ryan and Anthony were in the “original” Dream In Stereo and then they dropped the old drummer and guitarist and picked up Blake and Eric. This has been the line up so far.
What’s your writing process? Is it always this way?
We all sit down and throw together our basic ideas and then leads are written, then we just practice and do touch ups. It’s not always this way though.
Do you use any FX at your live shows? If so what kind?
Nope.
What would your dream show be, if you could play with any band at any venue?
Blake- Warped Tour
Anthony- Blink-182 at the Hayloft
Eric- Warped Tour
Ryan- Senses Fail anywhere
If The Dream in Stereo could do one thing to change the world, what would it be?
Party.
Anyone got a favorite TV show or movie?
Superbad excluding Eric who likes American Beauty.
Would you like to tell any of your fans anything special that’s going on?
We’re announcing our new vocalist, recording our EP in October, playing shows for the rest of the year, and keep an eye out for us coming to your town on tour this spring.
And thank you for everyone that came out to our shows and talked with us.
